First Line Software automates storage functions at Liebherr assembly production factory
June 2, 2015 - First Line Software, in cooperation with viastore systems, has automated storage operations for a factory where tower cranes are manufactured by Liebherr.
Liebherr, a family business founded in 1949, produces tower cranes at a large factory in Eching, Germany. The area of the factory covers 850,000 square meters and includes a dedicated storage area. The multiple factories operating within the Liebherr plant manufacture products ranging from small items to large machinery weighing several tons – adding complexity to the automation of storage functions. In addition, paper records were being used to manage the inventory of stored parts, including intake and distribution.
Liebherr made a decision to automate the storage area of the plant by implementing a Warehouse Management System (WMS). They chose German company - viastore systems GbmH – to deliver the WMS viad@t, hand-held terminals and desktop stations. Customization and integration of the system was performed by First Line Software – a viastore systems Partner.
During the project duration of six months, the WMS was deployed at the plant and integrated with the ERP system. The project allowed the company to eliminate paper records and streamline the process of unloading, storing, and retrieving parts. This automation applies to more than three thousand plant storage sites.
”First Line Software works with viastore systems on projects within the region and globally. The project was unique in that it was not directly linked to automated storage; but in fact, the assembly production", said Andrei Kazatchkov, head of the First Line Software project team.
Liebherr is a German engineering company with headquarters in the town of Biberach an der Riss, Baden-Wurttemberg. Liebherr was founded in 1949 by Hans Liebherr (it. Hans Liebherr).
