First Line Software attended ‘The ethics of information exchange in healthcare’ meeting on April 2nd in Utrecht. This second annual meeting was sponsored by both the ECP | Platform for the Information Society and Nictiz, an e-health expertise center.
The focus of this meeting was on the exchange of information in healthcare – specifically the digital transfer of medical records, referrals and the exchange of medication information. A great deal of focus has been placed on the more tangible aspects such as language, technology, infrastructure and standards. During this meeting experts, philosophers and attendees discussed the softer elements; specifically, the role of ethics by design, ethics by implementation, and ethics by users on a case-by-case basis.
