November 18, 2018 – The ‘Hackathon for good’ has finished.
The First Line Software Team went to work on the challenge of NCIA/NATO, how it could recognize fake news. Our software engineers developed an open source solution that combines and identifies any objects and texts, placed on images and recognizes relationships between key elements of the image.
As part of the solution, the team also launched an application that detects information based on the level of correlation between images, sets of graphical objects, and text terms. As a result, we delivered an innovative data solution for problems focused on fake news. It was a great final result for such a difficult challenge.
The Hackathon for good is an initiative of the Municipality of The Hague and the Data Science Initiative. During the software competition 27 teams representing more than 22 nationalities worked on the development of innovative data solutions for problems that included: humanitarian disasters (Red Cross), fake news (NCIA), evidence (ICC), emergency funds (World Vison) and land grabbing (Asser Institute).
More than 125 tech talents from the Netherlands and abroad participated in the Hackathon for good last weekend. The hackathon is the first public project of the Data Science Initiative, an initiative of tech entrepreneurs, universities, government and knowledge institutions in The Hague that are committed to facilitating peace, justice and security through big data and Artificial Intelligence: Tech for good.
