Web-application for service management, research and optimization of energy consumption in buildings
Our client provides services for energy management based on their specialized software and research to enable optimization of energy consumption. Their customers are some of the largest retail and hospitality chains, universities, theaters, and many more organizations with large facility portfolios. They use this solution for enterprise energy management that provides their customers with energy cost reductions.
This software developed by First Line ultimately provides the client with a centralized console, which integrates securely with a client’s existing building management equipment: heat and air conditioning systems, ventilation, lighting and others. The console integrates with the Clients database and captures instrument readings at a predetermined frequency - typically every 15 minutes. The system enables clients to manage and control capital equipment (for example, to set on/off time) and provides information about the energy consumption of the client’s buildings.
In addition to monitoring and control, the system provides data analytics services. The platform pairs actionable data with real-time building information, asset monitoring and predictive analytics to reduce energy consumption and at the same time reducing capital equipment costs to customers. Analytical studies are performed on the Microsoft Power BI platform. The technology facilitates building data cubes and automated analysis.
Challenge
Initially, our client contacted First Line Software to use their expertise to solve issues with the data uploading process. First Line Software optimized the data access layer, which improved the speed of uploading reports at a reasonable rate. First Line also conducted an analysis of the databases and prepared quality improvement recommendations for reducing the size of databases with the reconfiguration of the indices, table normalization, etc.
Product description
First Line Software has been developing a web-application for the client’s platform, so customers can view the energy data for their buildings in real-time. The application alerts the client about any trouble spots such as higher energy consumption and can be used by the client to compare different indicators themselves.
First Line Software developed the “Command and control service”, which allows for the management of several groups of devices from the unified system. Previously each device was controlled separately.
First Line Software implemented Microsoft Reporting Services, a simple analytics toolkit.
Four software development professionals from First Line Software developed the Building View solution. This solution is used to monitor the operation of energy-consuming appliances in the building. It provides real-time visibility with its console and assembles statistical analysis based on collected data. The solution was already in place but First Line redesigned and redeveloped it for their client.
Technologies
- ASP.NET, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Power BI.
