Our client’s mobile platform makes it easy for companies to connect with restaurant vendors to arrange services like pop-up food events, daily café services, and special deals on food delivery for their employees. They are committed to enhancing employee satisfaction and fostering vibrant workplace communities by offering convenient, affordable, and diverse dining options while championing local culinary talent.
Challenge
The client faced multiple challenges in effectively showcasing their restaurant partners and engaging users on their platform:
- Inadequate food and restaurant descriptions: Many partner restaurants, particularly smaller businesses, lacked the resources or expertise to create compelling descriptions of their offerings.
- Lack of appealing visuals: High-quality images and videos were often missing, making it difficult for users to visualize menu items and make informed choices.
- Inefficient user experience: Users struggled to find relevant food options quickly, leading to a less satisfying browsing and ordering experience.
This combination of factors negatively impacted user engagement, hindering the platform’s overall effectiveness and appeal.
Our Approach
Our team, comprising a developer and two prompt engineers, adopted a rapid development approach, dividing the project into three prototypes:
- Prototype 1: Advanced menu and image generation
- Prototype 2: “Live photo” generation from existing images
- Prototype 3: GenAI-powered personalized menu search

To expedite UI development and enable client experimentation and feedback, we built a rapid prototype using ReTool. This prototype showcased the capabilities of our comprehensive GenAI-powered tool, which includes:

- Generates compelling menu descriptions: GPT-4 analyzes ingredients and creates enticing, descriptive text for menu items.
- Identifies ingredients from images: The solution employs advanced image recognition to identify and label ingredients in food photos.
- Enhances food images and changes backgrounds: We utilize GenAI image processing techniques to improve image quality and replace backgrounds for a more professional look.
- Generates new images from user input: Users can provide text prompts, and the solution will generate unique images of dishes based on those descriptions.
- Creates videos from images: Using a sequence of images, the solution can generate short, engaging videos showcasing food items.
- Provides personalized search based on user taste and order history: The GenAI-powered search engine analyzes user preferences and past orders to provide tailored menu recommendations.
Technical Implementation
We employed a serverless architecture on Microsoft Azure, utilizing Azure functions triggered by user interactions within the ReTool interface. These functions route user input to GPT-4 for natural language processing and Stable Diffusion XL for image and video synthesis. This ensures scalability, cost optimization, and real-time GenAI-driven content generation. We also fine-tuned prompts for optimal results and cost efficiency, providing the client with clear cost projections for each functionality in production.
