Trends of the Global Warehouse Automation Market

Implementation of WMS

As a long-term partner of viastore WMS – a leading international provider of intralogistics systems, intralogistics software, and support services – First Line Software continuously monitors the warehouse automation market for trends and innovations and would like to share with you some recent findings.

LogisticsIQ™’s latest market research study is based on an analysis of 400+ companies with more than 100 in-depth interviews.  They conclude that the Global Warehousing Automation Market will grow more than 2x from $13 Billion in 2018 to $27 billion by 2025, at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 11.7% between 2019 and 2025.

Though, automated warehouse systems can resolve various challenges in warehouse management, research shows that 80% of current warehouses are still manually operated with no supporting automation. Just 5% of existing warehouses are automated, and a comprehensive adoption of smart technology is necessary for companies to remain competitive.

The reality today is that even automated warehouses with highly mechanized environments still employ people in key functions. With all the advanced technology, employees still spend their time loading and unloading trucks, handling parcel containers, and manually sorting odd-sized items.

As warehouse automation continues to grow, so do automation solutions. Below are some trends First Line Software has identified. This is on how manufacturers and warehouse operators can more efficiently do business and increase profitability in 2022 and beyond. And this is what warehouse automation companies will be paying close attention to in the coming years, changing the face of the industry:

  • Warehouse Robotics
  • Automated Guided Vehicles/Autonomous Mobile Robots
  • Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems
  • Automating the Picking Process (Pick by Voice, Pick by Vision, Pick by Light)
  • Same-day Shipping
  • Big Data
  • Internet of Things

Today’s current warehouse automation solutions have helped to ease and postpone many challenges. But in some cases, the solutions are just not flexible enough to cover all of the requirements of a dynamic supply chain.  First Line Software works with our clients to implement complex warehouse automation systems to optimize their warehouse operations.
